About Big Lyrx

Born and raised in Southern California and participating in the Rap and Hip-Hop culture for over ten years, it’s not surprising that Jason Olivas aka BIG LYRX has a strong voice and music with an unforgettably deep West Coast sound. Growing up he was highly influenced by music, especially from the golden age of soul, oldies, and of course hip-hop. He began with the pen name “Lyrical” when he first started trying to rap in rap flow circles at lunch time in high school. His first ever rap was actually a 2 page written flow about things he was going thru during those current times, which he recited during his first attempt in the rap circle. Already writing rhymes and now flowing in public…this is when his story all began. After that he would go on to perform at talents shows, school dances, and during lunch time stage activities, not shy at all to showcase his skills and talent. Besides basketball, music was now a hobby he loved doing, which then went on to be an even stronger love then just a mere “hobby”.

Out of pure talent, tenacity, and grit, he began to establish himself in the hip-hop culture in the LA and San Gabriel Valley music scenes.  Performing at parties, freestyle sessions, and even recording himself for the first time rapping over break beats.  Due to the desire to be different than the norm and to show a bigger expression of what he can do lyrically, he changed his pen name from “Lyrical” to “BIG LYRX.” His attempts to grow and move forward from flowing on break beats and industry instrumentals found him getting turned down by producers to supply him beats or the charge for the production would be super high, way out of his budget. Due to this dilemma, BIG LYRX began making his own beats the minute he was introduced to the Roland MC-307 beat machine workstation. The last 3 of his first 4 Mixtapes were fully produced, written, arranged, and all recorded by himself, defeating the odds of being in lack of original beats and having someone in the industry willing to work with his skills and talent.  BIG LYRX’S hustle and grind was easily noticed by his friends and entourage, which has never stopped to this day.

After 4 Mixtapes, after recording his music in LA studios, then shortly after the horrible passing of his best friend Nick “Cholo” Lopez, AND due to him not seeing a lot of local support for underground Rap and Hip-Hip in his area, BIG LYRX moved to the Inland Empire, where he began his journey to fully establish himself as a music artist, and not to mention, start a new chapter of life in a whole new area he hardly ever stepped foot in. Evolving and getting visibility as a multitalented artist and producer, BIG LYRX was noticed by an up and coming independent record label, Def Edge Entertainment. Together, Def Edge Entertainment crafted the group Diamonds N The Ruff in 2006, which coincidentally consisted of 3 artists of an unusual look at the time for a rap group….an African American male artist, a female artist, and a Mexican American artist. Diamonds N The Ruff went on to perform at many shows and venues in Hollywood, Orange County, Los Angeles, San Diego, and of course in the Inland Empire. This led them to becoming one of the hottest, if not the hottest, rap group in the Inland Empire at the time, gaining a big buzz from their music, individual rap skills, and most of all their mesmerizing stage performances that stamped the description of what a true Hip-Hop show experience should feel like.

After 5 years with Def Edge, BIG LYRX went solo again, teaming up works with DB and Str8 Royalty. In 2012 he began touring the Low Rider Magazine Circuit, Dubb Magazine Show Circuit, and in different states such as Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, and Las Vegas with DB, Bugzy Bluntz, Drowsy Locs,  and River Cash (Str8Royalty). While cataloging solo music and projects with Str8Royalty, BIG LYRX also did some acting broadening his horizons in the entertainment industry. In 2016 BIG LYRX hit the world hard with his Mixtape “The Platinum Ace” which was also hosted by the DJ and producer for The Game, the world famous Nu Jerzey Devil. Music of different styles, all in one project breaking down any stereotypical barriers that most Mexican/ Latino rap artists experience.

2020 is the breakthrough year for BIG LYRX and his music career. After taking time out of his career to raise his two sons, like a father should, BIG LYRX is scheduled in 2020 to drop the long awaited Mixtape with Bugzy Bluntz entitled “Slapperz N Bangerz”, the highly requested game changing album “Believe in Me” in 2020 and another album and EP before the year is complete. All music is being released under the independent label CAAZ Records, in which BIG LYRX co-owns with longtime friend, business partner, and artist Alanna Luna. CAAZ Records is taking off in 2020 with a plethora of great music, scheduled performances, and a dope apparel line, all while being fully supported by Mamma Media Company, Luna’s Designer Cannabis Marketing Firm.

New year, new decade, new opportunity to cement a name in Rap/ Hip-Hop history. Be on the lookout for BIG LYRX and all his upcoming projects, easily described in two words…..HOT MUSIC!
